Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: 30 Days Later Review: Better Than I Imagined!

I got a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra a few weeks ago. I use it every day and it keeps surprising me. I like the screen, design, speed, and cameras. But, this phone might not be for everyone. Here’s what I think after using it for 2-3 weeks.

Camera Shutter Lag Issue

Camera Shutter Lag Issue

The camera has a big problem called shutter lag. The camera is amazing, the best one I’ve used. I will show you later how good it is on trips and daily use. But, the shutter lag makes it hard to take clear pictures of moving things like animals, kids, and cars. They come out blurry most of the time.

I am not talking about very fast movements. Even small movements are hard to capture clearly. Other phones, like my iPhone 15, can take these pictures easily. The problem is the delay between pressing the button and taking the photo. The S24 Ultra has a long delay. I found out online that this is a common issue with older Samsung Galaxy phones. It’s surprising because the camera is great for everything else except this problem.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Speaker Quality

I don’t like the speakers on this phone. They sound hollow and not strong. When I watch videos, it is hard to hear people talking because of other noises. The music doesn’t sound good either. I can’t compare it to other Samsung Ultra phones, but my iPhone 15 Pro has better speakers. Someone told me to use Dolby Atmos, which helps a little, but it’s still not as good as the iPhone 15 Pro’s speakers.

One UI & Android 14 Operating Systems

One UI & Android 14 Operating Systems

I like Android 14 and One UI more than I thought. One UI is good in many ways. It’s stable, has a nice look, and lets me change things. It has features iPhones don’t have, like edge panels, a quick app tab, and Bixby call screening.

But there’s a downside. The biggest feature of the S24 Ultra, Galaxy AI, costs extra money. Samsung didn’t talk about this much. It’s in small print on the US sales page. Galaxy AI will be free until 2025 on some Samsung phones. Sadly, AI features cost more money, especially when the phone is already expensive.

Galaxy S24 Ultra AI Features

I love the S24 Ultra phone, especially the Galaxy AI. It’s useful every day and helps with many things. One great feature is Live Translate AI. It translates phone calls into different languages while we talk. I use it to talk to my friends who speak Mandarin, and it works no matter what phone they have. We can even talk only through translations if we want.

Another cool thing is Generative AI photo editing. It lets me move people in pictures, remove them, or make the photo bigger. Also, I can turn any high-quality video into slow motion with Galaxy AI. It adds extra frames to make the video look smooth and slow.

Some of these ideas are not new, but Samsung has done a good job putting them in the phone. The S24 Ultra uses a powerful chip that has Generative AI built-in. There’s still work to do, like making the AI features work with other apps, but it’s already amazing! Samsung, like other companies, is testing AI ideas to see what works. They might start charging for it in 2025.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Camera

Let’s talk about the camera on this phone. It is my favorite so far. On the back, there is a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and two zoom lenses. It can also take 8k videos at 30fps. This is not found on Google or Apple phones yet.

I took some photos at a wildlife retreat. The zoom lens is very good. I could get close to giraffes with 5x and 10x zoom. The final photos were great, like a chicken’s eye and the Sydney Opera House from far away. The zoom is impressive, and I had fun taking close-up animal pictures.

The ultra-wide camera looks great in bright light, and the two zoom lenses add detail to photos. Most photos had nice colors and contrast. Sometimes, there was a purple hue, but Samsung might fix this in future updates.

Portrait mode surprised me too. Photos looked vivid and natural, better than my iPhone 15 Pro. The phone does a good job separating the subject without any fake halo effect like on my iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Design

The S24 Ultra looks like the older models but has some improvements. It now has strong titanium rails like the iPhone 15 Pro, but weighs the same as the S23 Ultra at 233 grams or 8.2 ounces. The phone is very strong and I haven’t worried about dropping it.

The new screen is less reflective than the iPhone 15 Pro, which makes it easier to use outside in bright light. The 6.8-inch display is beautiful and bright, even on hot sunny days. But, it only reaches its highest brightness of 2,600 nits when outside.

I enjoy watching videos on this screen, like YouTube and Netflix shows. The colors really pop and it’s perfect for watching on a morning commute. There are some design changes like a new speaker grill, a flat S-Pen cap, and a flat display. I wish there was a smaller S24 Plus for easier one-hand use.

Performance and Battery

Performance and Battery

This phone works really well because of its new processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It never gets too hot, even when using it a lot outside or playing big games. With 12GB of RAM, it can run many things at once without any problems.

The phone has a big 5000mAh battery that lasts all day. I usually have 20-50% battery left at the end of the day. This is better than the S23 Ultra’s smaller battery. It can also charge other devices wirelessly, which iPhones can’t do yet.

It connects well with Bluetooth 5.3, 5G, and Wi-Fi 6E. The S24 Ultra is the first phone to support Wi-Fi 7 speeds. I’m excited to try it with a Wi-Fi 7 router for even faster internet.

Samsung S Pen

Let’s talk about the S24 Ultra Stylus Pen. I used to wonder why we need a pen when we have fingers. But, I like the S Pen more than I thought. It is good for editing photos, taking screenshots, and writing quick notes. My friends don’t like the sounds it makes in the Notes app. The S Pen makes the S24 Ultra different from other phones. It fits inside the phone, so we don’t have to carry it around.

Conclusion

The S24 Ultra is an awesome phone. It works fast, has a bright screen, lasts a long time, and takes great pictures. It’s even better than the S23 Ultra. I’m happy I tried it instead of just using Apple phones. I wonder what other Galaxy users think about this phone. The only reason I haven’t fully switched is because of Apple’s control over my digital life.

But I might use the S24 Ultra for work and my iPhone 15 for personal stuff. I’m excited to try more Android phones this year because I didn’t know what I was missing. The S24 Ultra is a top choice. If you finished this article, say “ULTRAMAN” in the comment box.
